5 Ways to Use Your Intuition For Confident Decision Making
Feeling stuck in a situation that you can’t seem to be able to change?
Are you faced with several choices, and you don’t know which path will be the right one?
Are you contemplating changing your career or letting go of a relationship, but you’re not sure if you’re doing the right thing?
Or maybe you’ve been seeing the number 555 when you need to make a decision?
Luckily, the Universe has equipped you with the perfect tool to aid you – your intuition.
What is intuition and how does it work?
You know that ‘gut feeling’ you sometimes get? Or that flash of inspiration? Or a sudden insight, when an unexpected answer pops into your mind almost effortlessly?
That’s a message from the Universe, intended just for you – and intuition is the channel through which you can access divine guidance from your Higher Self and spirit. The power of intuition has even been tested scientifically, with remarkable results.
It’s important to distinguish your intuition from your ego. Insights from the ego mind are often accompanied with anxiety, fear, and frustration.
Messages from your intuition are filled with peace. They ring with absolute, yet gentle authority. When you get such a message, you know in your heart that it’s true, even if you’re not able to explain or rationalize it consciously.
But how do you tap into this fantastic resource? Here are five easy ways to access your intuition.
1. Ask a question and then let go
Often we’re confused over what action to take or what choice to make because we haven’t got a clear question defined in our minds. So, the first step toward accessing your intuition is asking a specific and personal question.
You can form your question in the form of a prayer. Here’s an example.
Dear Universe, thank you for your boundless love and your endless loving guidance. I feel like I’m faced with a tough decision and I don’t know which path to take in this situation. Please guide me towards choosing the path that will be for the highest good of all.
But here’s the important bit:
The rational mind is excellent at solving logical problems, but it gets in the way of your intuition and blocks you from receiving the best answer.
An essential element in asking for guidance is releasing your mind from any preconceived ideas about the solution. You need to be open to receiving a response that will be for the highest benefit for everyone concerned – not only for yourself.
And the rational mind sometimes has a hard mind digesting this, whereas it’s no trouble for your intuition (because it can see things from a much higher perspective).
One brilliant way of letting go of a preconceived answer to your question is meditation. So, once you’ve defined your question in your mind, surrender it to a higher force during meditation. You can try this guided meditation on surrender by Fadzi.
Once you’ve unleashed your question, get on with your day, or drift off to sleep, aware that the answer will come.
It may not happen instantly, but you need to trust that it will come. In fact, it may come in the most unexpected circumstances (you may be brushing your teeth or walking down the street when a flash of insight pops into your mind).
When it does, you’ll feel it in your body that it’s right.
2. Use a pendulum
Pendulum dowsing is a fun and exciting way to access your intuition. It is a form of divination, and, with some preparation, anyone can try it.
How does pendulum dowsing work?
Your mind, body, and spirit are all connected, and a pendulum allows you to access your intuition using that connection. Some research also indicates that a pendulum picks up on electromagnetic energy that radiates on Earth.
But the only way to know if it works for you is to give it a try. You can find everything about pendulum dowsing here, including how to choose a pendulum and how to dedicate and ‘program’ your pendulum before you begin to use it.
A word of caution though. Be sure that you cleanse your aura or meditate before you attempt pendulum dowsing – only do this when you feel your energy is balanced, cleansed of any negativity and when you feel calm. In other words, cleanse your intuitive channel before attempting a pendulum dowsing ritual, to ensure that the message you receive is clear and uninhibited.
3. Get a deck of Oracle cards
Similarly to pendulum dowsing, Oracle cards can help you receive guidance from your Higher Self or higher powers that be, and transmit that through your intuition.
The most important thing is to ensure that you choose a deck that feels right for you.
Before you use your oracle cards for the first time, take some time to get to know them. Familiarise yourself with each card, the symbols that the imagery depicts and the energy it emits. Make sure that you’re in a pleasant and balanced mental space as well.
When you are ready, ask your cards a question, then see what answer they give you. Take the time to notice what the symbols and imagery trigger in your mind. What emotions do they stir up? What mental pictures are you seeing? What thoughts are arising? All these are important signs that should help in guiding you towards a decision that feels right.
4. Stop asking for other people’s opinion
Even if you’re not affiliated with any particular religion, and you don’t follow any leaders, you’re still likely to be profoundly influenced by the people around you. Even if we move away, our families, friends, and cultures we find ourselves in continue to shape us, and it is challenging to rid yourself entirely from the influence of others’ opinions.
However, your intuition is intensely personal.
If you explain your circumstances to a friend, they may be able to offer useful advice, but you should be very careful when taking it. Sometimes a good friend can act as a mirror and reflect character faults that need to be improved.
But other times, they may be projecting their concerns, fears, and worries onto you (with the best intentions at heart). They may advise you against a career move because they’d be too afraid to make such a bold move – whereas you may be more courageous. On the contrary, they may push you toward an action that you may not be ready to take yet.
And what if the person you’ve been relying on for advice becomes unavailable? Who are you going to consult then?
When faced with an important decision, be sure to take some time out to switch off from other people’s opinions and reduce the noise in your mind, so that you can tap into the wisdom of your own heart. It speaks very quietly at times, overwhelmed by all the noise of outside opinions, but as you practice to listen to it (through meditation or building a wall against other’s ideas), that voice will become louder, and you’ll be able to hear it more.
5. Unplug from the matrix
Quite often, it’s not just the opinions of others that invade our minds.
It’s also the noise we hear all around us. The sounds of traffic, the constant buzz from our smartphones, announcing that a new message or an email has arrived, the awful things we hear on the news, etc.
A study conducted a few years ago revealed that, on average, we consume the data equivalent of 174 newspapers every single day!
Even when on holiday, we’re still bombarded by media, and this information overload can seriously interfere with our ability to tap into and listen to our intuition (as this requires a clear channel, rather than a busy mind).
The best antidote to ‘the matrix’ that we’re all plugged into is a technology detox and some time spent in nature. This will not only help you clear your mind, but it’s also profoundly healing.
So, before you make an important decision, take some time out in nature.
Go for a short walk or take the dog out. If you happen to live near a river or the seaside, take a dip! For healthy maintenance, plan a week off in nature once a year to reset your intuitive abilities and connect with the natural world around you. You can find out more about the importance of connecting with your surroundings in this article.
If you’re still not sure how best to connect with your intuition, start with baby steps. Ask the Universe for guidance and listen out for a flash of inspiration that will prompt you to take action. It is as simple as that.
